Getting to know our school by Shoruq Bader 11th grade

Getting to know our school
Abu-Dis Secondary School for Girls, is a government secondary school belonging
to the Directorate educating the outskirts of Jerusalem \ Ram.As any school in the
world we learn materials. In each grade we learn different things but we keep learning
the same materials, until the 10th grade.In the 10th grade we choose which route we
want to continue in academic route or vocational route, in our school we have just the
academic route, and in the academic route we have two streams, the scientific stream
which we mostly study math and science. And the literary stream which we study subjects
like history and Arabic, and the last steam is commercial stream which we study subjects
like technology and accounting. After two years in studying the stream we chose,
we have to go throw the final year 12th grade or which we name Al-Twjihi. In Al-Twjihi we
go throw testes that the ministry writes, and people who pass this exams, get a degree
and can register in colleges and universities.
The materials we learn at school are math, Arabic language, English language, science,
history, geography, religion, technology, French language or health, sport and art.

Arriving to London and Meeting Our Partners

We arrived in London Friday the 8th, and we went to a residential with many teachers in shropshire. The weekend was very productive and great. Upon returning from Shropshire, we went to LSU and Camden Girls School where we attended classes and met with our partner teachers.

Meeting with our partner teachers

Camden Girls

We compared schools and the education systems between Palestine and the UK. Both systems had pros and cons and we agreed to activate our blog in order to make a long last communication between two schools. Also, we agreed to have a joint skype lesson once a month. We also agreed to exchange students' facebooks and social media profiles so they can start interacting with each other. We spoke about the situation in Palestine and the difffculties students face every day due to the restricition of movement and the constant arrests.
*We hope we will be able to create long term twinning links and learn from them and raise awareness about the situation in Palestine

I want to go to the college

 Hi friends!

In the last session in LSU school we played a game call 'I want to go to the college' with the students. The game had been made with some other EVS volunteers in the past. We want to say 'thank you' for making it, because it is a really useful tool learn about  Palestinian issues.

The games is quite easy to play, we have a board with different boxes. You throw the dice and you move your peice forward the number in the dice. If your box has a question mark you pick up a card. All the cards are in the middle of the board. If your card has a positive answer about the school you can advance one box more, but if your card has a bad thing like the difficulties which the Palestinian students find every day, you should go back one box.
Example: 'I found my favourite book in the library' +1  ; ' The Israeli soldiers throw tier gas to the school' -1 The winner is thw first to arrive at the end of the board.

At the end of the game we talked about different topics in Palestine like the problems which the students have every day in the school: checkpoints, problems with soldiers, tear gas, etc.
